  • Ronald Smith, 62, of Mankato, formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.     Ronald Charles Smith was born February 7, 1951 in Litchfield to Roger and Helen (Theisen) Smith. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School with the class of 1969. Ronald was united in marriage to Sue James on August 3, 1979 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.  He worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 23 years, most of which was spent in Sleepy Eye. Ronald enjoyed hunting, reading, collecting cars, and going to car shows. He also recently obtained his realtor’s license. Ronald was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He will be dearly missed by his family. www.mvfh.org.
    Ronald is survived by his mother, Helen Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Darcie and Nate Helget of New Ulm; sons, Dan Smith and Douglas Smith, all of New Ulm; sisters, Donna and Joan; brother, Dave; former wife, Sue of New Ulm; and by many other friends and relatives. 
    He was preceded in death by his father.
