The Searles Bullheads took second place at the Minn. Senior Men’s Amateur Baseball Association Class AA 35 and over State Tournament on Aug. 24 in Jordan.
The championship game versus the St. Peter Saints started off with a lead off double by Troy Kamm, which followed by a fly out and a walk. Kamm was able to score the first run for Searles after a sacrifice hit was made by Scott Schaefer. Matt Kuster then doubled to right field, which would have scored two more runs but it was called by the umpire that the runner missed third base, which took the two runs off the scoreboard to end the inning.
The Bullheads struggled to recover as they did not score again until the fifth inning, after John Giefer hit a two-RBI double. Another run was scored in the seventh from an RBI single by Bruce Jacobs but it wasn’t enough to catch the early 9-1 lead set by the Saints in the first four innings.
St. Peter was able to easily control the game with its explosive offense. The Saints were able to score 11 more runs in the game, bringing the final score to 20-4. Searles struggled on the mound, as five different pitchers gave up the 20 runs while striking out only two runners.
It was the seventh time in nine years the Bullheads played in the Class AA championship game, with four of those being championship wins. They end their season with a 14-6 record overall.
