Not only did Nathan Stevermer win the Championship Flight category at the Sleepy Eye Golf Club Championship, he did so with style.
Stevermer was able to hit a hole-in-one on hole No. 4 during the championship. He shot a score of 185 over five rounds of nine holes, with an average score of 37. Stevermer hit the hole-in-one during the fourth round and used a pitching wedge to do the job. Its his second ever Championship Flight victory, after he claimed the title in 1995. Steve Schultz took second place in the Championship Flight with a 186, just one stroke behind Stevermer.
The Club Championship was held on Aug. 24 and 25, with qualifying rounds held on Saturday. Club members were then placed in various flights depending on how well they did the first day.
Sleepy Eye Golf Club Manager Brian Hertling said the Club Championship had a pretty good turnout despite the warm temperatures.
“The scores were pretty good considering the weather,” Hertling said.
Other winners include Dustin Schueller and Rodney Brummond, who took first and second respectfully in the Presidential Flight. Tyler Jensen and Mike Zuhlsdorf took first and second place in the Vice-Presidential Flight, and Dave Riebel and Jay VanSickle took first and second in the Players Flight. Finally, Ben Laffen took the first place victory in the Youth Flight while Caleb Christiansen and Bryant Mages tied for second.
