  • On Friday, Aug.16, the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter conducted a Farm Safety Carnival during Buttered Corn Days at Allison Park.

With the carnival, 28 FFA members had the opportunity to mingle with community members while promoting farm safety. In order to promote farm safety and agricultural education, the activities were free and included an Agricultural Trivia Duck Pond, Fish Ring Toss, Plinko, Bean Bag Toss, Tractor Roll-over Demo, I Spy a Farm Hazard and more, including a “Tug-of-War with Grain,” which let community members see if they had enough strength to pull a person out of grain.

Educating youth on safety and agriculture is something the FFA feels is very important. Participants were asked a trivia question regarding tractor, animal, chemical or ATV safety following each activity to enhance the knowledge of agricultural education and farm safety. It was a day filled with enjoyment for FFA members as they connected with the community.

In addition to the Farm Safety Carnival, the FFA stayed active during Corn Days by participating in the parade on Saturday with their FFA-themed float. The float featured the slogan, “Leading and Succeeding for 75 years,” which is what the Sleepy Eye FFA has done and hopes to continue to do for this next year and many years to come.
