  • Parent Aware ratings are provided by the Minnesota Department of Education. ECFE, Head Start and child care sites are all eligible to apply. Sleepy Eye ECFE received word their application was approved as a four star rated site. Certain curriculums are accepted as meeting the state standards for early childhood, as well as having certified teachers on staff. It also allows families to apply for the early childhood scholarships offered the next two years. Hopefully this information will arrive in time for the preschool open houses that will be held next month.
School Readiness open house is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3, 6-7:30 p.m. and Discovery Time open house is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 10. Letters of invitation will be sent to those families who are enrolled in the programs.
An ECFE newsletter will be mailed in the next couple of weeks. It will include information about the ECFE classes as well as special events. ECFE classes planned so far are:
    3-5s on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 17 for nine sessions. Times are 9-10:30 a.m., 4:30-6 p.m. or 6:30-8 p.m.

The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School. School day hours are generally 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Since staff is part-time, they may not always be in the building. You can call and leave a message on voice mail, 507-794-7873, and we will get back to you with more information. Another option is to e-mail staff with questions and to sign-up. Addresses are on the school website.
