  • New winners of the Sleepy Eye Buttered Corn Days corn eating contest emerged Friday during the corn eating contest, a highlight of Buttered Corn Days.
     
    Jason Fischer and Amy Kral of Del Monte Foods defeated Sleepy Eye Off Sale contestants Rosie Finstad and Matt Schmidt by eating 17 ears of corn to Sleepy Eye Off Sale’s 13 ears. Del Monte Foods now has the traveling trophy on display at their business until it is challenged again at the 2014 Buttered Corn Days. The corn eating contest was held around noon in Allison Park on Friday, Aug. 17.
     
    Contestants were required to eat as much corn as they could in two minutes time.
     
    Aside from free corn, hamburgers, a beer garden, a 1919 Root Beer stand, food vendors, inflate-a-fun, kids’ games, the Zooman and a craft and flea market rounded out the day.
     
    Friday evening the raffle winners were announced.
     
    Sleepy Eye Chiropractic won the "There’s No Place Like Home" raffle package that included a lawn care kit, a
    30 minute plane ride, a State Farm kit, home decore, yard tools and a duffle bag.
     
    David Fischer was the winner of the "Stay-cation" raffle package. That package included a stay in the camper cabin at Sportsman's Park, a gril, a gift certificate for pork, grilling tools, a fire extinguisher and a one night stay at the W.W. Smith Inn.
     
    The "Work Hard, Play Harder" raffle package was won by Katie Schmiel. The package included Minnesota Twins tickets, a golf outing at the Sleepy Eye Golf Course, a 60 minute massage gift certificate at Beyond the Rainbow, a wellness gift pack from Sleepy Eye Chiropractic, a workout gift pack and sunglasses from Lifetime Eyecare Center.
     
     
    Pam Braulick was the winner of the "Just Play" raffle package that included Chanhassen Dinner Theater Tickets, a punch card to the Sleepy Eye Aquatic Center, a wash, wax and vaccuum on a car from Quality Care Care, lawn games, pool toys, digital reprints from Sleepy Eye Online, free Subway sandwiches at Subway and a large utility tote.
     
    The "Will You Play With Me" raffle package was won by Steve Thordson. That package included sunglasses from Lifetime Eyecare Center, Nickelodeon Universe tickets,a free computer tun up with duffle bag at NU-Telecom, a sports pass from St. Mary's and Sleepy Eye Pubic Schools, a Dairy Queen certificate and two 6 packs of Buddy's orange pop.
     
     
    The winner of the "Sit and Stay Awhile" raffle package was Sleepy Eye Repair. That package included an outdoor patio bench, a one year free subscription to the Herald-Dispatch, a $25 gift certificate at Schutz Family Foods, stadium seats, garden tools and a gift certificate to the Eagles Orchid Inn.

    Tim Altmann was the winner of the "Stay Beautiful" raffle package that included free sign up and two months free at the Sleepy Eye Fitness Center, a pendant at Sleepy Eye Stained Glass, white stips from Pollard & Rubey Dental Professionals, a BJ's Salon gift certificate, 10 free tanning sessions at Friendz Salon and Tanning, a gift certificate to Creative Hair and a 30 minute massage from Body Healing.
     
    Sleepy Eye Repair was the winner of the "Man Cave" raffle package which included $100 Off of Sleepy Eye Luxury Charter Service, a hammock, a gift certificate to Miler Sellner, a car wash kit, seven Sleepy Eye Carwash tokens, a wall clock and gift certificate to Auto Value, a Railway Bar and Grill gift certificate and a cooler.
     
    There were a number of events held on Saturday including a 5k/10k run walk, an Oreo eating contests, Dad’s Belgium Waffle Feed and garage sales.
     
    As a close to the weekend, the Grand Parade was held Saturday evening featuring many local parade units. A favorite along the parade route was the Buttered Corn Day’s mascot.
