  • The V.I.P. passes are ready for senior citizens residing in the school district. The first event they can be used for will be on Thursday, Sept. 5 for a home volleyball game. They can be picked up in the Community Education office during the school day.
     
    Sleepy Eye School staff will also be presenting various topics throughout the year on T-Time (second Tuesdays at 10 a.m.) Community residents are encouraged to come for a cup of coffee and learn about iPads, Smartboards and funding/levies this fall.

    Questions concerning preschools arrive daily. School Readiness will probably not begin until Sept. 9, as a new teacher is being hired and she will be sending out packets of information by the end of the month.
    Discovery Time does not begin until Wednesday, Sept. 18, but ECFE for the 3-to-5-year-olds will begin on the 17th. Two-year-old and Toddler classes will begin the following week. An ECFE newsletter is currently in the process of development which will include all of the details for classes.

    A new series of 55 Alive classes are in the works for September to December. There will be a number of four hour renewal classes and one eight hour first time class offered during this time.
     
    A Computer Skills class is scheduled for Mondays at 3:30 p.m. starting Sept. 9. It will include e-mail, online job search, Microsoft Office and Learner Web. A Computer skills tutor can be lined up as well. This option is held once a week for two hours.
     
    Upcoming outings that need attention are the Minnesota State Fair for Monday, Aug. 26, with sign-up requested by Aug. 20. The Clay County Fair trip will be on Tuesday, Sept. 10 which is the only Senior Citizen Day this year.

    The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School. School day hours are generally 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Since staff is part-time, they may not always be in the building. You can call and leave a message on voice mail, 507-794-7873, and we will get back to you with more information. Another option is to email staff with questions and to sign-up.
