This new loan program supports the business of family child care by providing financial resources and technical assistance to help expand or enhance licensed family child care businesses in southern Minnesota.

  • Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) has recently developed the Building Blocks Loan Program. This new loan program supports the business of family child care by providing financial resources and technical assistance to help expand or enhance licensed family child care businesses in southern Minnesota.
     
    Loans up to $15,000 at a five percent interest rate are available to family childcare providers within SMIF's 20-county region. Funds can be used for code requirements, equipment, education materials and curriculum, or to become a licensed family child care provider.
     
    All loan clients may receive technical assistance that includes QuickBooks training, marketing ideas, and scholarships for continuing education classes.
