  • A missing level 3 predatory sex offender was found and detained July 31 at Fort Ridgely State Park after he was added to the Minnesota Department of Corrections wanted list on July 21.

The warrant for Rommel Heinrich Fritz, 52, was issued after he failed to check in with his supervising agent. He was found in a remote campsite at the Fort Ridgely State Park in Nicollet County at 7:25 July 31 from a tip from the public, according to a press release from Nicollet County. Fritz surrendered without incident.

Fritz is on Intensive Supervised Release for First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct against an underage female. Fritz was released from the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Rush City on June 11, 2012.

A hearing will be held in the next ten days to determine if Fritz will be allowed to remain in the community under Intensive Supervised Release, or if he will be returned to prison. Fritz has served 12 years and seven months of his 20 year prison sentence. However, his sentence requires him to remain on conditional supervised release for the rest of his life.
