  • Veronica T. Simon, age 92, of Sleepy Eye, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home in Morgan.

  • Veronica T. Simon, age 92, of Sleepy Eye, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home in Morgan. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and will continue on Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 5 p.m., and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., both Wednesday at the funeral home. Service will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. The clergy will be Father Mark Steffl. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, in Sleepy Eye. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
    Veronica Theresia was born on September 19, 1920 in Stark Township, Brown County, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Bruckbauer) Fischer. She was baptized on Oct. 3, 1920 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was united in marriage to Willmer Simon on Oct. 5, 1943 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple farmed in Sigel and Stark Townships and for 10 years near Cosmos. In 1966 they returned to Sleepy Eye where Veronica worked for Del Monte for 20 years retiring in 1985. Willmer preceded her in death in 1993. As her health failed Veronica needed nursing care and had lived in various nursing homes, most recently Gil-Mor Manor since 2007. Veronica was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
    Survivors include her children, Karen Wunsch of Paynesville, Allan (Elaine) Simon of Willmar and Carla (Charles) Gruendemann of Morgan; eight grandchildren, Matt Wunsch, Charlie (Lisa) Wunsch, Tammy (Ray) Lambert, Angie (Darrin) Bonnema, Jeff Simon, Chris (Angie) Simon, Emily (Nate) Lee and Amanda Gruendemann; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Sylvester (Lavon) Fischer of Lafayette, Ben (Genny) Fischer of Sleepy Eye, Olivia (Howard) Binder of Gibbon and Rosemary (Hilary) Tauer of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Arthur (Loretta) Simon of New Ulm; and sister-in-law, Marian Zollner of Fairfax.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willmer; son-in-law, Marvin Wunsch; siblings and spouses, Edwin (Gertrude Heglar), Herbert (Irene), Louise (Eddie) Schmitz, Arthur (Lorraine), Wilbert (Theresa), and Emil in infancy; brother-in-law Albin Zollner and Wesley (Lucille) Simon.
