  • Friday evening is the Brown County Relay for Life and it takes place on the Brown County Fairgrounds. The Relay is a great way to spend an evening with family walking to help find a cure for a disease that has affected so many people.

The Relay is just one way our county works together to raise funds for cancer research and so much more. The proceeds from the local Relay are than turned over to the American Cancer Society.

Lately there has been so many people diagnosed with cancer it is hard to wrap my head around.

This year’s Honorary Chairperson is Denise Clyne and the Honorary Caregiver is Joleen Wendinger.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with the pork supper. The program will begin at 7 p.m. and the luminary lighting will take place at dusk.

If you’ve never been to this event, you really need to attend; and if you’ve been there, please keep coming to support it and those the disease affects.

Cancer not only affects the individual with the diagnosis, but affects their entire family, coworkers, friends, community and everyone they are affiliated with.

Thank God that today with medications and technology that have been developed, not all cancer is a death sentence like it was years ago. Research continues to develop new trials and programs for those fighting cancer to participate in, but more is needed.

There is much we can do to help as well. If you know someone who has been diagnosed, offer to drive them to an appointment for treatment; bring a lunch or dinner; bring healthy foods and snacks such as fresh fruits, vegetables or they may need high fat foods or drinks such as Ensure. Most of all, please pray for them, their family and that one day a cure will be found. Send messages such as “Thinking of You” cards. Continue to offer positive reinforcement and let them know they are never far from your thoughts and always in your prayers.
One day there will be no more cancer. “Imagine a World with more Birthdays.” Brown County Chapter, Relay for Life.
