  • This is the theme of Sleepy Eye’s 52nd Annual Buttered Corn Days which is Friday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 17. The theme is fitting for Sleepy Eye as you can find a wide variety of shopping, we have beautiful hotels, bed and breakfasts, camping sites and camper cabins for you and loved ones to stay in and lots of fun ways to play at any of the parks, Sleepy Eye Aquatic Center, Sleepy Eye Lake, or go skating, fishing, boating, golfing, biking, hiking and the list goes on!

To highlight all that Sleepy Eye has to offer the raffle packages were developed around the theme of SHOP! STAY! PLAY! You will be able to purchase a raffle ticket for only $10 each from a Chamber member business, the chamber office or at Allison Park on the 16th. The Chamber businesses were so generous with their monetary or product donation that we could make the package more specific to a male, female, kids and families so there really is something for anyone. There are eight packages and they are called: There’s No Place Like Home, Stay-cation, Work Hard… Play Harder, Just Play, Will You Play With Me, Sit and Stay Awhile, Stay Beautiful and Man Cave.

The schedule for Buttered Corn Days will be consistent as in years past. On Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. in Allison Park, there will be FREE sweet corn, burgers, 1919 Root Beer, beer garden, live music and craft vendors.

Champion Sleepy Eye OFF SALE has challenged Del Monte Foods for the corn eating contest at 12:15 p.m. and the raffle drawing will be held at 7 p.m. On Saturday morning get out there and do the Buttered Corn Days Fitness Run and Walk at Allison Park, then have some delicious waffles at Sleepy Eye Public School cafeteria for the Dad’s Belgian Waffle Feed to support the Sleepy Eye Historical Society and find some great treasures at the City-wide garage sales. Something new this year is a concert by the Schell’s Hobo Band from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at South Park, which is sponsored by NU-Telecom, and finally the GRAND PARADE will be at 6 p.m. and the route will be what it was in 2011 and before (what it used to be before the road construction).

For more details of the Buttered Corn Days events please contact the Chamber office at 507-794-4731, go to www.sleepyeyechamber.com or find a schedule of events poster proudly displayed at a Chamber business. We look forward to the 52nd annual Buttered Corn Days celebration!
