  • The Sleepy Eye fast pitch softball teams were unsuccessful at the State Tournament last weekend.

The Sleepy Eye 18U team went 0-for-2 at the tournament in St. Cloud. The team competed in the Tier 2 bracket, along with more than 15 other teams around Minnesota. Sleepy Eye was eliminated after it lost to both Buffalo and WMT Black. The Duluth Thunder team took the championship title, going undefeated at the tournament.

Meanwhile, the 16U Sleepy Eye team traveled to Mankato and competed in the third tier. The team’s first game was a loss to the Spartans, which brought them to the losers bracket. Sleepy Eye would have faced the familiar team of Essig, but Essig had to forfeit. This advanced Sleepy Eye to face against the Mankato Peppers, only to lose. The winner of the Tier 3 category was Hopkins.

Last but not least, the 14U Sleepy Eye team also competed at State, but unfortunately lost two out of their three games as well. The athletes traveled to Mounds View, where they beat Maple River 9-6 to start off the tournament, but then lost to St. Paul Highland Navy 2-10 which brought them to the losers bracket. Sleepy Eye had one last chance to advance in the bracket, but lost to the Hopkins Royals in a close 9-10 game. The title of the Tier 4 category went to Apple Valley Gold.
