Game 1: Sleepy Eye 9, Stark 2; Game 2: Sleepy Eye 4, Stark 0
The Sleepy Eye Indians traveled to Stark on July 7 to take on the Longhorns in a doubleheader.
Sleepy Eye came out strong in the first game and took an easy 4-0 lead after two innings. Stark responded with two runs of their own in the third, but the Indians pulled away in the fourth and fifth after scoring five more.
Leading at bat was Andrew Woitas, who had three hits, one RBI and one run. Also, Alan Woitas scored two runs with one hit, Sean Mathiowetz scored three runs and had two RBI, and Kelly Krzmarzick had one hit and three RBI.
Stark made five costly errors in the game which further propelled Sleepy Eye’s unstoppable offense. On the defensive side, Alan Woitas threw five strikeouts over nine innings along with two runs, seven hits and a walk.
Costly mistakes from Stark was the story for the second game as well, as the Longhorns had six errors while Sleepy Eye was errorless.
Joey Walter and Mathiowetz each scored two runs in the game while Mathiowetz had three hits and an RBI. Also leading for the Indians was Alan Woitas with two hits and three RBI, and Andrew Woitas going 3-for-4. He also led on the mound, throwing six strikeouts, six hits and three walks.
The second game was a make up game from June 12. Sleepy Eye’s record moves to 8-9 and will finish its last three regular season games at home.
