The University of Minnesota Southwest Research and Outreach Center’s annual Organic Field Day will be held on Tuesday, July 9 near Lamberton with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.
A field and plot tour will begin at 9:15 a.m. The tour will highlight the SWROC’s three high tunnel season extension facilities. This tour will also make stops at the dry edible bean plots and the soil microbes studies.
Several Soil Scientists from the U of M SWROC will hold discussions about various soil topics. Those scientists include Dr. Jeff Strock and Dr. Paulo Pagliari. George Nelson, scientist and farm manager at West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC), will explain crop rotation used with the organic dairy at the WCROC at Morris. Laura Fernandez, University of Minnesota graduate student will conclude the sessions with a talk about a unique closed system fertility research project.
There will be time for a brief wrap up session to end the day.
The Organic Field Day is open to the public and will include time to network and visit exhibits. No pre-registration is required.
