Sleepy Eye Farmers Market is a place where vendors sell locally grown, fresh produce for people to purchase offering an assortment of fruits and vegetables to home baked goods. The market begins July 8 and is held every Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the city hall parking lot until Sept. 23.
Sponsored by the Sleepy Eye Retail Association, the market exists to offer area vendors an opportunity to market their produce in a customer-friendly, accessible location.
The number of vendors and items available may vary from market to market, but no matter what the size, people seem to enjoy the atmosphere of the farmers market.
Farmers markets are renowned for being locally grown and very fresh, allowing farmers to pick produce at the peak of flavor, preserve the nutritional content of fresh produce and since locally produced, it does not travel far from farm to table, the difference in mileage saves in fossil fuels.
Vendors looking to sell their produce can contact the Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce at 794-4731. Spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis each Monday.
Vendors are in charge of setting up their selling space.
