The Stark Longhorns hosted the Leavenworth Orioles on May 30 for a Stark benefit game. Raffle tickets were sold and a variety of prizes were given away during and after the game.
Leavenworth got a quick lead in the second inning after a double by Billy Cook. The Orioles had a 2-0 lead that lasted throughout the game, only to add one more run later.
Some opportunities for Stark opened up in the fifth inning, but the Longhorns were unable to capitalize on them. Even more chances came around in the eighth. Brandon Helget hit a double with no outs to start the inning for Stark, and was able to advance to third. But hopes were lost after the Orioles got an easy double play off of a line drive to Leavenworth’s pitcher, who made the grab and proceeded to throw Helget out at third.
The Orioles bring their record to 9-7, while Stark goes to 4-12.
