June 19: Sleepy Eye 10, Gibbon 5; June 23: Searles 2, Sleepy Eye 1
The Sleepy Eye Indians won one and lost one in their past two games.
On June 19, Sleepy Eye hosted Gibbon where the Indians showed strong offense and defense. The Reds only managed five runs from their 12 hits because of Sleepy Eye’s solid fielding. Meanwhile, the Indians created a lot of opportunities at bat.
Sleepy Eye got things going in the bottom of the second, and scored their first run after a single by Kelly Krzmarzick. Base hits by Joey Walter and Sean Mathiowetz led to even more runs for the Indians. A combination of hits and walks from the Indians and errors made by Gibbon, allowed Sleepy Eye to score six runs in the second for a nice lead.
The Reds scored a combined four runs after the fourth and fifth innings, but the Indians defense wouldn’t allow any more.
Matt Helget and Alan Woitas split the game on the mound, while Alan Woitas led Sleepy Eye at bat with two hits, one run and four RBI. Meanwhile, Krzmarzick had two hits, scored one run, and had two RBI to further lead the offense.
On June 23, the Indians traveled to Searles Ball Park where Searles defeated Sleepy Eye 2-1 in a KNUJ game. The Indians made four errors in the game and struggled at bat. Andrew Woitas and Joey Walter managed to get two hits apiece, but Walter was the only player on the team to score.
Andrew Woitas faced 32 batters and threw seven strikeouts to lead in pitching. However, the Grizzlies managed to hit a home run off of Woitas, which helped them get the 2-1 win.
