  • The Sleepy Eye VFW 14U baseball team went 1-1 at the Sleepy Eye Tournament last weekend.

Sleepy Eye’s first game was on June 21 when it took on Hutchinson. Both teams showed lack of defense but solid hitting, as both teams combined for 31 runs. Hutchinson ended up with the win, beating Sleepy Eye 18-13.

Sleepy Eye’s second game of the tournament was on June 22 against New London-Spicer, where Sleepy Eye was able to better control it’s defense. Sleepy Eye won 9-3 and moved its record to 4-2-1. The final games on Sunday were cancelled due to a wet field.

Meanwhile, the older VFW team also split their past two games to move their overall record to 5-2. On June 19, Sleepy Eye traveled to Green Isle where they took on Arlington. Arlington didn’t allow Sleepy Eye to get a single run in the game and won 7-0.

An opposite scenario played out for Sleepy Eye’s team on June 20 however, as the team pounded Blue Earth 10-0 at the Stark field.
