Molly Lax, a recent graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye, is the second place winner of the 2013 Clean Air Choice Biodiesel Essay Scholarship.
Lax will receive a $500 scholarship as she continues her education at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. Lax’s essay was selected from nearly 100 applicants from across Minnesota.
In her essay, Lax wrote: “Thankfully, modern technology has made the research and development of alternative fuels possible. However, this is not enough. American citizens must become more educated about alternative fuels, particularly biodiesel. Biodiesel provides numerous benefits in a spectrum of areas: environmentally, economically and agriculturally. With the widespread use and development of biodiesel, we can truly say that we are fueling the future.”
Lax’s winning essay can be found on the www.CleanAirChoice.org website. The annual contest, open to all high school seniors in Minnesota, is sponsored by the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council.
