May 21: Springfield 7, Sleepy Eye Public 5
The season is over for the Sleepy Eye Public softball team after the Indians lost to the Tigers on May 21.
Both teams scored evenly up until the fourth inning when Springfield scored three critical runs which gave them a safe 6-3 lead.
Although the Indians had less errors and more hits, they weren’t able to catch up in the late innings.
It was the last high school softball game for seniors Sam Krebsbach and Tiffany Ludewig, but they ended it with style. Ludewig went 2-4 at bat and had one RBI. Meanwhile, Krebsbach went 2-3 at bat, had one RBI, and hit a home run to make the icing on the cake.
“This was a well played game but we just came up short,” Indians coach Tim Hoffmann said.

The first game was high scoring, as both teams scored at least two runs in the first inning while both teams scored three runs apiece in the third.
But the Chargers pulled away in the fourth after they scored three more runs, which was too much for the Indians to respond to.
Sophomore McKayla Ahlrich threw nine strikeouts to lead in pitching, while juniors Jamie Fischer and Jordyn Domeier led the team at bat with a combined five runs and five RBI.

The second game was the opposite of high scoring. Sleepy Eye scored single runs in the second and third innings to get a 2-0 lead, but MVL responded in the fourth and sixth innings and tied it 2-2. But the Indians managed a final run in the seventh which gave them the win.
