  • Each month the Sleepy Eye FFA features Members of the Month. This month, the FFA members featured include Kacie Goblirsch, Josie Schieffert, David Jasso and Jamie Fischer.

    Grade in school: 10th
    Years in FFA: 2
    Why you joined FFA: To try something new and my sister was in it
    Career Development Event (CDE) Team: Floriculture
    What you like about your CDE: I like working with the flowers and identifying them.
    Favorite FFA activity: Camps in the summer
    Something you'd like to try in FFA and/or what you're most looking forward to this year: I am looking forward to all of the summer events I will be in as an officer.
    What you have learned by being in FFA and Ag. class: I learned a lot about floriculture, leadership and other FFA CDEs.
    Awards you have earned that you are most proud of: I am most proud of my Phoenix Award because it shows the leadership skills I have gained. I also earned fifth place at state for floriculture.
    Josie Schieffert
    Grade in school: 9th
    Years in FFA: 3
    Why you joined FFA: To grab the opportunities that FFA has to offer.
    Career Development Event (CDE) Team: Floriculture and Creed Speaking
    What you like about your CDE: I have gained knowledge in identifying flowers and have enhanced my speaking skills.
    Favorite FFA activity: State FFA Convention
    Something you'd like to try in FFA and/or what you're most looking forward to this year: I am looking forward to SGLC (State Greenhand Leadership Camp)!
    What you have learned by being in FFA and Ag. class: I have learned to follow through with things, to be a leader and make a difference in my school and community.
    Awards you have earned that you are most proud of: State Creed Winner, Star Greenhand, Six Star Leader and 5th place Floriculture Team at State.
    David Jasso
    Grade in school: 9th
    Years in FFA: 3
    Why you joined FFA: I thought it would be fun to learn about agriculture.
    Career Development Event (CDE) Team: Trapshooting
    What you like about your CDE: It's fun and it's good practice for the future.
    Favorite FFA activity: Adopt-A-Senior where I make cards for nursing home residents and go play bingo with them.
    Something you'd like to try in FFA and/or what you're most looking forward to this year: Learning more about agriculture and trying different things along the way.

    Jamie Fischer, Officer of the Month
    Grade in school: 11th
    Years in FFA: 5
    Why you Joined FFA: I joined FFA as a seventh grader because everyone in my family, at some point, was involved in it.
    Office: Treasurer
    What you like about your officer position: To me, all of the officer positions are very similar. We all contribute to the team and step up when needed.
    Career Development Event (CDE) Team: Poultry
    What you like about your CDE: I joined poultry in 9th grade and have been in it since. Poultry is a very competitive CDE, especially in our region, where we judge many different poultry related products like eggs, live birds and ready to eat carcasses, just to name a few.
    Favorite FFA activity: Officer Workshop
    Something you'd like to try in FFA and/or what you're most looking forward to this year: I'm looking forward to going to the national convention this year with my poultry team. After two years of placing 3rd at state, I was very excited when we found out that we had finally gotten first.
    What you have learned by being in FFA and Ag. class: I have learned a lot about agriculture as a whole, which is not just about farming, but also the people who ship, prepare and sell the products the farmers need and sell are also a big part of the Ag. industry.
    Awards you have earned that you are most proud of: Greenhand Degree, Blue and Gold Award and Top Overall Poultry Individual at State.
