Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre will be returning to Sleepy Eye in June to produce “Robin Hood.” There are costumes and space for up to 70 children to participate. Anyone seven and older is invited to come to the auditions on Monday, June 3, 1 p.m. in the Sleepy Eye High School Auditorium.
The directors will play the roles of Flora, the Queen of the Faeries and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Children will fill the roles of Robin Hood, Maid Marian, the faeries, Robin’s mother, the sheriff’s daughters, the sheriff’s deputies, Maid Marian’s tutors, “Grunt” the King of the Gnomes, the Gnomes, Will Scarlet, Little John, Friar Tuck, Cook Henry, the Merry Band, Prince John and King Richard.
Some of the children will receive speaking parts but the groups will have smaller speaking parts. No preparation is necessary for the auditions.
This activity is made possible in part through a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council with an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature. The local sponsor is Sleepy Eye Community Education.

Community Education is also sponsoring a trip to Valleyfair on Tuesday, June 25. The school bus would leave at 8 a.m. and return by 9 p.m. There are more than 75 rides and attractions plus a waterpark. The Dinosaurs Alive! area is new this year and requires an additional admission of $5. Children ages 6th grade and younger need to be accompanied by an adult. Registration is needed by June 19.

The first ECFE Book Wagon will be on Thursday, June 6, at South Park, 9:30-10:15 a.m. and Keifer Park, 10:30-11:15 a.m. Due to a R.E.A.D. grant from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, each family attending will receive a book each week.
