  • Several property value reductions were approved Monday, May 13 at the annual Board of Review meeting.

Reductions following the Brown County Assessor’s Office recommendations included Glen and Lisa Schuster for the two commercial properties they own at 300 4th Ave NW and 245 Main St. W. The first property was reduced to $42,100 and the second property was given a land value of $13,600 plus $500 on the building bringing the total to $14,100.

Casey Coulson owns a single family home in disrepair that he plans to demolish within the next year. His reduction in value of $30,800 places the current property value at $23,200.

The property owned by Virginia Dewell at 824 Water St. SW was reduced in value by $13,700 with the recommended value of $18,000.

Charles Hansen, Jr, who owns agricultural land in the northwest corner of town received a recommended value reduction of $22,500 to a property value of $153,100.

Property values that remained the same were Ann Schultz of 404 Water St. SW at $91,100 and Ron and Mary Berdan of 750 3rd Ave. N of $217,100.

The council also approved over $70,000 of additional Snow Farm property improvements.

City Manager Mark Kober said that when initial talks began about whether to add additional construction to the property he was convinced the roads needed to stay unbuilt.

“But the truth of the matter is, we’ve got sellable property on the south side that would be much more accessible with that road,” he said, adding that it would be cheaper if the work was done now.
Kober said there is one residential lot sold with a projected closing date of July.
