  • May 10: New Ulm Cathedral 5, Sleepy Eye Public 2

    Sleepy Eye Public hosted the Greyhounds on May 10. Matt Berkner and John Mangen hit some base hits to get a run in the third, but it wasn’t enough momentum to get past New Ulm Cathedral.

    “Anytime you give Cathedral extra bases, extra outs they capitalize on it and they did that today,” Sleepy Eye Public coach Aaron Nesvold said.

    Stats
    Pitching: John Mangen 9 K, 2 BB, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER.
    Other: Matt Berkner 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 SB;

    May 13 Game 1: Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 7, Sleepy Eye Public 5; Game 2: Sleepy Eye Public 7, BLHS 6

    The Indians split two games on the road against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on May 13.

    In the first game, the Mustangs got a five run lead in the first inning, which was tough for Sleepy Eye to respond to. The Indians scored three runs in the second to give them some hope along with two more in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their opponent.

    “Five unearned runs in the first cost us the game,” Nesvold said. “We were able to battle back to get within striking distance, but could not overcome the early deficit.”
