  • St. Mary’s baseball team ousts CMC, hits two home runs

    The Knights beat the Cougars in both games on May 2 in a doubleheader at Comfrey High School.
     
    In the first game, St. Mary’s came out with seven runs within the first three innings, but had a huge fourth inning where they scored 14 runs. The Cougars made many errors which cost them heavily.
     
    Sophomore Jon Kopacek hit the first home run of the season for the Knights. Kopacek went 4-5 at bat and scored four runs.
     
    Both David Surprenant and Sean Mathiowetz went perfect at bat, going 5-5 with a combined seven runs and four RBI.

    In the second game, St. Mary’s scored nine runs in back-to-back innings to get another big lead.
     
    Senior Jordan Anderson went 4-5 at bat, and hit the second home run of the day for the Knights.
     
    St. Mary’s head coach Bruce Woitas said he was pleased with the results of the doubleheader.
     
    “We really hit the ball well today throughout the lineup,” Woitas said. “Mike and Mitch did a nice job on the mound.”
