    On May 3, the St. Mary’s softball team traveled to Wabasso to take on Benilde St. Margarets, a 3A school from St Louis Park. Although the Lady Knights lost by three, St. Mary’s coach Wendy Owens said it was a good learning experience.
    “Playing a 3A school was a good challenge,” Owens said. “Great game to get to see where we are at.”
    The Lady Knights took the lead in the fifth inning after a home run by senior Jenna Hose, but Benilde St. Margarets scored three runs in the sixth inning which was too late in the game for St. Mary’s to create a comeback.
    Pitching: Maddy Helget 7 IP, 32 BF, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 4 2B, 4 K, 4 BB.
    Other: Jenna Hose 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI;
    Karlie Heiderscheidt 2-3;
    Emily Schumacher 1-3.
    On May 6, St. Mary’s lost another game on the road, this time to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity.
    The Bulldogs scored two runs in the fourth inning and the Knights weren’t able to come up with any runs of their own throughout the game.
    “We played a great defensive game,” Owens said. “We were just flat offensively and couldn’t take advantage of a few of their errors.”
    Sophomore Laura Pelzel led St. Mary’s in pitching with six strikeouts.
    Pitching: Laura Pelzel 6 IP, 23 BF, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 3 2B, 6 K, 0 BB.
    Other: Pelzel 1-1, 1 BB.
    Records: St. Mary’s 5-3 overall, 3-1 conference.
