The Sleepy Eye Public baseball team started their season well, but recently lost two games in a row.

The Indians hosted Wabasso on May 2 where they lost 1-9. The Rabbits got off to an early lead and scored seven of their nine runs in the first three innings.

Freshman Austin Fischer had a base hit in the bottom of the second inning which resulted in Sleepy Eye’s only run of the game.

Sleepy Eye coach Aaron Nesvold said the Rabbits were able to capitalize on their mistakes and poor defense.

“When you don’t make plays and you have six errors you’re not going to win any games,” coach Aaron Nesvold said. “Pitching wise I didn’t think we did too bad.”

The Indians traveled to Springfield on May 3 where they took on the Tigers.

Springfield took a major lead in the first inning, scoring seven runs. However, the Indians hit the ball much better than they did the day before, with 14 hits and seven total runs.

But it was the eight overall errors that cost them the game.

“We hit the ball very well, but the first inning cost us,” Nesvold said. “We gave them extra outs on three errors alone in the first inning.”
