After a 0-19 record last year, the Indians snapped their losing streak on April 26 when they faced off against Cedar Mountain/Comfrey in a doubleheader.
But not only did they start their season opener with a win, it was also a no-hitter.
Senior John Mangen threw 13 strikeouts to lead the Indians and didn’t allow any hits or runs. Sleepy Eye head coach Aaron Nesvold said he was proud of Mangen’s performance.
“John pitched a fantastic game to get the Indian’s season going in the right direction,” Nesvold said. “We hit the ball well, and played ‘okay’ defense for our first game.”

The second game was a different story for the Indians. They started out with a 2-0 lead, but CMC responded with four runs of their own in the second inning.
Sleepy Eye scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 5-5. Senior Ethan Silfies had a game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Indians.
Junior Sam Hirschboeck was a key player in the second game, going 3-4 at bat and hitting two doubles.
“Fun game to end the nightcap of a doubleheader,” Nesvold said. “We needed to fight back to win the game and that was good to see from our team. We never gave up.”
