The school year is rapidly winding down for 2012-13.

Planning for summer activities is nearly complete and registration for youth activities will take place on Monday, May 13, 5-6:30 p.m. in the Sleepy Eye School Cafeteria.

Some changes will take place as the Sleepy Eye Aquatic Center will only be offering three sessions for swimming lessons this year. During the week of July 1-5, Water Games and Pool Fun will be held. This will also be repeated later in July.

Amanda Neidecker is the new activity coordinator for Sleepy Eye Park and Recreation. Some of the activities offered will be baseball, smurfball, track and field, arts and crafts, fun in the park and tennis.

In previous years, tennis was offered through Community Education.

Youth will also be able to participate in Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre June 3-8, when “Robin Hood” comes to town.

Youth golf lessons, ECFE Book Wagon, Babysitting Clinic and a Lego building workshop are all scheduled at this time.

Brown County Extension and the Dyckman Free Library will also have opportunities for the summer.

Families need to watch for a printed copy (after May 1) of all the activities our community will have for youth. The brochure will also be posted online at that time.

The Community Education office is located in room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School. School day office hours are generally 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Since staff is part-time, they may not always be in the building. You can call and leave a message on voicemail, 507-794-7873, and we will get back to you with more information.

Another option is to e-mail staff with questions and to sign-up. Addresses are on the school website.
