River Valley Speakers captured the runner-up trophy at Tuesday’s subsection speech contest held at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School.
River Valley Speakers captured the runner-up trophy at Tuesday’s subsection speech contest held at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School. St. Peter was the team champion with 241 points followed by River Valley with 136 points. Third place team honors went to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewartville. Other teams competing included Minnesota Valley Lutheran, New Ulm Cathedral and Cedar Mountain.
Individually, River Valley earned individual champions in three of the 13 MSHSL speech categories: Scott Vogel-discussion, Cody Schwartz and Brian Thoreson in duo, and Molly Dunn in storytelling. Speakers who finished in second place include Isaac Nelson-creative expression, Katie Scamp-drama, and Brandon Roiger-informative. Third place finishers include Isaac Kirschstein-oratory and Jenny Thoreson-drama. Rounding out the group of speakers who will be able to advance to section competition are fourth place recipients Alexia Linck-exemp speaking, Becky Roiger-oratory, Mariah Hoyt-prose, and Katelyn Hauth-informative.
Other medal winners include Briana Schmidt, Luke Reiner, Amy Davis, Jacob Riederer and Hannah Johnson. Sixth place medalists include Cori Deming, Natalie Timm, Kalina Kastner and Anna Plotz. Emily Meyers finished in seventh place, and Pete Dalsgaard finished in eighth place.
On Friday, River Valley will be represented by 13 speakers at the Section 3A contest held at St. Peter High School beginning at 3 p.m. Twelve speakers in each category will vie for the top three spots in order to qualify for the state contest on Saturday, April 20, at Blaine High School.
