  • A group of citizens and government representatives has been meeting to explore possible concepts of recreational trails and routes in and near Brown County.

    An open house for the public to participate in this discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, from 5-7 p.m. at the Sleepy Eye Community Center, 115 2nd Avenue NE.

    A short presentation will be made about 5:15 p.m. and repeated about 6:15 p.m. It will report on the background and present status of the group. Possible trails and routes will be discussed. Interested citizens may come-and-go to participate in open discussions about future opportunities. There will be a questionnaire to record ideas and opinions.

    This informational meeting seeks public input. Runners, walkers, bicyclists, in-line skaters, equestrians, snowmobilers, skiers and others are all welcome. The Coalition has four objectives:

    • improve residents and visitor's physical, mental, emotional and social well being;
    • connect and promote recreational, cultural, agricultural, scenic and historic features of communities and rural areas;
    • to grow our various economies;
    • to tell the stories of residents past and present.

    A Joint Powers Agreement among governments has been established for the group. A map of low volume paved roads connecting communities and sites of interest has been prepared.

    The Coalition seeks more representatives from all locations and interests to take an active role in possible trails, routes and connectivity in and near Brown County.
