A trip to warmer weather a couple of weeks ago led us to one of our favorite stops last year. This year we had another adventure seeker with us, Larry’s niece and godchild, Kristi.
She was in Florida playing softball with Iowa Lake Community College and had Tuesday off. The three of us packed in the car and headed for Gatorland for another thrill.
This year the adventure included zip lining across Cuban and Nile crocodiles and the Alligator Breeding Marsh complete with 130 alligators and crocodiles.
We launched from heights of up to 65 feet, soared across five intense zip lines that ranged from 230 feet to 500 feet long and then walked across a swinging bridge over the park’s main walkway. They said we could reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour but I’m not sure what rate we actually traveled.
I only know it was an adrenaline rush!
The experience was one for the bucket list and an adventure that will soon not be forgotten. We even got a picture to prove the adventure really happened and those actually were live gators below.
Zipping was the easy part, but walking that swinging bridge just about did me in. I waited for Larry to finish crossing before I stepped on. However, the lady behind me didn’t wait for me to finish before starting.
Thus, the bridge was accommodating two people’s movements at one time. I almost froze right in the middle and couldn’t move because each step I took at that point caused the bridge to move the opposite direction I anticipated. I think I blurted something mean to Kristi at that time and tried to move as gingerly across that dang bridge as possible. I was never so glad to feel something solid below my feet. The challenge was to get past my fear and that I did. Would I do it again, probably, because I think it is good for us to challenge our weaknesses and test our faith. Neither let me down.
Thought for the week: You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in the mind. – Dale Carnegie.
