  • Brown County Rural Electrical Association (BCREA) members, employees and guests gathered at the Eagles Orchid Inn on March 23 for the cooperative's 76th Annual Meeting.
More than 400 were in attendance, with 269 members registering.
Pastor Dave Price of Springfield United Methodist Church shared the invocation. Board President Tom Hayes recapped highlights of the cooperative's 75th anniversary in 2012. Office Manager Becky Bradburn presented the 2012 final financial report to the members.
General Manager Wade Hensel reported that once again Brown County REA's average outage minutes for members have been among, if not the lowest, in Minnesota and the nation. He also reviewed the strategic initiatives and discussed key legislative issues.
Directors were elected in Districts 1, 4, and 5 at the meeting. William Berg was chosen from a slate of five candidates to represent District 4, vacated with the retirement of Robert Berg, Jr., who was recognized and thanked for his 46 years of service to the cooperative. Incumbents James Hanson, District 1, and James Mickelson, District 5, were re-elected to their positions.
BCREA's 2012 Youth Tour representative, Cole Milbrath, shared photos as he spoke of his experience on the Washington, D.C. trip last June. Recently crowned Miss Sleepy Eye, Maddy Helget, greeted the crowd and thanked the REA for her sponsorship in the local pageant. Frank Bianchi offered many compliments to the cooperative employees as he presented details of his look inside the coop as part of the Member Advisory Council.
At the organizational meeting which followed, Tom Hayes was elected President of the Board, Jim Mickelson chosen as Vice President, Jim Hanson elected Secretary/Treasurer and Reuben Kokesch was again selected as Brown County REA's Great River Energy representative.
