  • River Valley speakers placed sixth out of 18 teams at Saturday’s tournament hosted by Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, which featured only Class “A” schools.

  • River Valley speakers placed sixth out of 18 teams at Saturday’s tournament hosted by Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, which featured only Class “A” schools.
     
    Individually, the duo team of Cody Schwartz and Brian Thoreson won championship honors to lead the team. They were followed by three runner-up finishers: Brandon Roiger in both oratory and informative speaking, and Molly Dunn in storytelling. Kalina Kastner was River Valley’s only other finalist finishing third in oratory.
     
    Next out of finals blue ribbon winners were Katelyn Hauth in informative speaking, Becky Roiger in oratory, and Katie Schwartz in poetry. Isaac Kirschstein and Amy Davis both earned honorable mention red ribbons in oratory and extemp reading respectively.
     
    River Valley speakers will compete in the last regular-season invitational at SMSU-Marshall on Saturday, and after that, the subsection team will be preparing for the contest which will be held on Tuesday, April 2, at 3 p.m. at MVL High School.
     
    Winners will compete at the Section 2A tournament on Friday, April 12 for a spot in this year’s MSHSL state tournament which will be on Saturday, April 9, at Blaine High School.
