St. Mary’s Catholic School was awarded a $10,000 grant from Toyota Drive for Education grant program.
An essay was submitted by senior Maddy Helget detailing the need for new bleachers in the school gym and because of that essay, St. Mary’s School was awarded one of the $2500 grants from Toyota Drive for Education.
That essay, including other winning essays from around the area were posted on Facebook and schools were encouraged to have their supporters vote for their school’s essay.
Because of the incredible support of its students, parents, faculty, alumni, friends and residents in and around Sleepy Eye, St. Mary’s School was one of two schools that received the most votes and earned the updated grant of $10,000.
The school was presented with the grant during the boys’ state hockey tournament on Saturday, March 9, 2013.
