Music programs nationwide are in danger. State and local legislators are attempting to make up for funding shortfalls in this difficult economy by cutting education budgets, which can place school music at risk.
Music In Our Schools Month – March 2013 – is a perfect time to get involved and do your part to ensure that Sleepy Eye Public School (SEPS) students have access to a music education.
To begin the celebration at SEPS, a talent show featuring the Jazz Band and several other vocal and instrumental groups, as well as soloists, is planned for Sunday, March 3 at 7 p.m. on stage at the SEPS high school.
The SEPS music boosters will also hold an ice cream social. This event is a fundraiser to help raise money for band and choir members who are going on a music trip in March to Chicago, the first in three years.
For more information or anyone interested in being part of the talent show should contact Mary Mulry or Erik Root at SEPS before Feb. 25.
Everyone is invited to share in a musical night of celebration.
