Eleanor Rose Fischer, age 100, of Sleepy Eye, died on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marian Conference Room at the Divine Providence Community Home. Service will be held at the Divine Providence Community Chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. The clergy will be Msgr. Eugene Lozinski. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Rose Fischer was born on January 8, 1913 to Albert and Mary (Zwaschka) Rathman in Mulligan Township near Comfrey. She was baptized at St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey. She attended District 63 and St. Paul Catholic School in Comfrey. Eleanor attended Good Counsel Academy and joined the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1936. She graduated from the college of St. Catherine in St. Paul in 1950 and taught elementary school in St. Paul and elsewhere. She was released from her vows in 1967. Eleanor married Henry L. Fischer at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel in St. Paul on November 30, 1968. They lived on a farm in Albin Township until 1973, when they moved to Sleepy Eye and resided at 527 2nd Ave. N.E. Henry died on July 26, 1983. Eleanor was a member of the Christian Mothers society and a member of the Divine Providence Auxiliary. She continued to live in her home until November of 1994 moving to Lake Villa Maria for 15 years and at Divine Providence Community Home for the past 3 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary (Zwaschka) Rathman; husband, Henry; sisters, Veronica (Mrs. Joseph Hillesheim) and Agnes McLendon; and brothers, Leonard, Norbert and Jerome.
