The board of directors of the Springfield Cooperative Creamery announce the acquisition of Steve's Feed & Farm Supply, Sleepy Eye.
"After long and careful consideration we have decided to expand our patron base by purchasing Steve's Feed & Farm Supply," said Phil Runck, president of Springfield Cooperative Creamery.
Steve's Feed & Farm Supply is a profitable agricultural service business that has been serving the Sleepy Eye area for more than 50 years, Runck noted. "The merger of the two businesses will be a good move for both communities." Plans are to operate the businesses under the name of Springfield Co-op Creamery– Sleepy Eye Division; with the company headquartered in Springfield.
Steve Helget, manager of the Springfield Co-op Creamery, will be general manager. Jerry Haala will be assistant manager and he will head the Sleepy Eye location. All employees will be retained at both locations. Steve Hillesheim has agreed to continue to work with the company through the transition.
"Springfield Co-op Creamery is a grassroots company. We cater to all farmers — small or big." Runck said.
"Service and quality products will always be our standard. People you know and have done business with for years are now part of a bigger team."
The company will handle Hubbard products Form-A-Feed and Big Gain feeds, Garst, Northrop King and North Star corn and soybean seeds, livestock equipment, and Sioux Bin sales and service.
The business acquisition will take effect on Feb. 1, 2013.
