Larry A. Overgaard, 66, East Grand Forks, died Friday, Jan 18th at Altru Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on Aug. 13, 1946 in Crookston, MN, son of Albert and Belva (Berg) Overgaard. Larry was born and raised in Gentilly, MN, attended Gentilly grade school and graduated from Central High School in Crookston in 1964. He worked at Jiffy Fry until 1967 when he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Wainwright during the Vietnam war. He was married in Crookston on May 16, 1970 to Elizabeth Ann Hegge of Climax. Larry worked for the US Government for 27 years, Vigen and Simplot for the past 12 years. “Larry’s greatest loves were traveling with his best friend and wife Elizabeth (Betty) Ann, caring for and spending time with his grandkids, and their dog Hannah. He also loved cars and anything with a motor. Larry was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church.”
Survivors include his wife: Elizabeth; son: Matthew (Stephanie) and three grandchildren: Isabella, Braxton & Emma, Fargo, ND; siblings: Earl (Faye) Overgaard, Crookston, Marlys (Vern) Demarais, Crookston; stepmother; Mildred (Myerchin) Overgaard, Crookston; mother-in-law: Alice Hegge, EGF; sister-in-law: Carol (Roger) Beiswenger, Fisher; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Hegge, Mentor, Dennis Hegge, EGF, and David Hegge, Climax; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert & Belva; sister: Dianne Engelstad; brothers-in-law: Kelly Engelstad and Donald Hegge; father-in-law: Orris Hegge; and a nephew: Steven Hegge.
The funeral service for Larry Overgaard will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Crookston, with the Rev. Rolf Preus, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston on Tuesday from 5-7 PM, with a 7 PM prayer service, and also at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Eldred Cemetery, Eldred.
