  • Jordan Eli Alter is the first baby born in Sleepy Eye in 2013.

He made his arrival into the world on Friday, Jan. 4 at 5:58 p.m. at Sleepy Eye Medical Center (SEMC). Parents are Nate and Samantha Alter.

Jordan weighed six pounds, 11 ounces and measured 19.5 inches in length.

He is welcomed home by his big brother, Jeremy, 20 months.

Grandparents are Jane Alter of New Brighton; Dave Reigspad of Spring Park and Tony Alter of Davenport, Fla.

Nate said at first Jeremy wasn’t sure about sharing the attention, but soon began giving his baby brother kisses.

“He’s starting to come around,” Nate said with a chuckle.

The Alters are new to the area, moving to Sleepy Eye in November from Albert Lea.

Jordan’s parents knew early on he was going to be a boy. He was due Jan. 2, but Samantha’s labor was induced on Jan. 4. The Alters live only several blocks from the Medical Center and walked there for the big event.

Jordan’s birth holds another significance; He is the first baby delivered by Dr. Karlyn Armbruster, the newest doctor on staff at SEMC.

As is the local tradition, many Sleepy Eye businesses have contributed gifts to the happy parents of the first baby born in Sleepy Eye in 2013.
