  • This past weekend, Sleepy Eye Police arrested a male juvenile for allegedly making threatening statements on a social media website.
According to reports, exact details of the threats are not being released at this time, but were directed at several area schools.
According to Superintendent John Cselovszki, police were notified on Friday that threats had been posted on a Facebook status.
The threats were investigated by the Sleepy Eye Police Department and after evidence was reviewed along with the Office of the Brown County Attorney, the male suspect was taken into custody, according to a report from the Sleepy Eye Police.
According to the report, there was no evidence to show that the male taken into custody planned on working with an accomplice.
The suspect was transported by the Sleepy Eye Police Department to Prairie Lakes Detention Center in Wilmar. Charges are pending through the Brown County Attorney Office and were expected to be filed early Monday morning.
The name of the male suspect cannot be released because he is a juvenile.
Superintendent John Cselovszki said that police presence at the school on Monday morning was for safety and to answer any questions or concerns for school staff, parents or students.
"Our school is safe,"  Cselovszki Monday morning. "We are following protocol for incidents like this and there should never be a reason that anyone should ever feel unsafe at our schools."
Cselovszki said he sent out an automated phone message throughout the district on Saturday saying that the police currently had a suspect in custody and the Sleepy Eye Schools were following established procedures to respond to the threat. The message included that school would resume on Monday as normal with increased security.
All Sleepy Eye schools were open Monday morning. The Sleepy Eye Police Department as well as the Brown County Sheriff's Department were present at the three area schools in Sleepy Eye as students arrived. The law enforcement officials reported that the morning went without incident.
