Parks and Recreation Director Daryl Bergs announced Monday that the two new cabins at Sportsman’s Park have been completed. An open house for the public will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. until noon and 4-5 p.m.
The new cabins, located east of campsite number 16 are 12’ x 24’ with the 12’ side facing south looking toward Sleepy Eye Lake. The cabins feature two rooms; one that measures approximately 8’ x 12’ that makes up an enclosed porch. The second room in the cabins features a sleeping and dining area complete with a built in picnic style table and benches. Sleeping arrangements include double bunk beds with two single bunks above two full-size bunks.
One cabin has been made handicap accessible by adding a wheel-chair accessible ramp to the front door and a single and double bed bunk on one side of the room and two single bunks on the other side of the room. One cabin sleeps five while the other sleeps six.
The interior boasts a knotty pine finish and linoleum flooring with 6” log wood finish on the outside.
Renters are responsible for brining their own bedding and cooking inside the cabin will be limited to crockpots and coffee makers. Like the campsites, each cabin has a grill area with a picnic table and fire pit.
Six slider windows open and close to allow airflow and prevent wetness inside the cabin from rain. Each cabin comes equipped with a small wall heater and air conditioner, a ceiling fan and overhead lights. There is electricity, but no running water or bathroom. Renters will have access to the bathroom facility at the park.
Pets and smoking inside the cabin is not permissible.
Rental pricing and reservations for these cabins can be obtained by contacting the city offices. The cabins will be available for rent from March through October.
Guests who attend the open house will have a chance to register for a free night’s stay in the cabins March through Oct., 2013.
