Jerome Schroepfer, age 84 of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center.
Jerome Schroepfer, age 84 of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov.29, from 4-7 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 30, from 7:30-10 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Monsignor Eugene Lozinski will be officiating the service. Jerome Ervin Schroepfer was born December 13, 1927, in Brown County, to Frank X. and Theresa (Seidl) Schroepfer. He attended country school district #15 through the sixth grade. Jerome then attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. He worked for his dad and his brother before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Jerome served for two years at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Seattle, Wash. Upon his return to Sleepy Eye, he was united in marriage to Arlene Altenburg on November 25, 1953, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. The couple lived in Sleepy Eye where Jerome owned and operated a Standard Oil station for 40 years. After selling the business, Jerome continued to work there part-time. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, KC’s, Catholic Aid, Sleepy Eye American Legion and the VFW. Jerome served on the Sleepy Eye Fire Department for 28 years, was a former member of the Mulligan Township baseball team, and enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing and watching his grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by wife Arlene of Sleepy Eye; children, Carol Schroepfer of Mahtomedi, Ronald (Karen) Schroepfer of Brooklyn Park, and Steven (Karen) Schroepfer of Waite Park; grandchildren, Cali and Jared Schroepfer of Brooklyn Park; sister Rosella Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye; and brother Sylvester (Pearl) Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clement, Felix, Edward, Raymond, Florian, Walter and Albert; and sister Lorraine Weiss.
