  • Vernelda “Nellie” Jensen, 83, of Sleepy Eye died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at the Hospice House in Redwood Falls.

  • Vernelda “Nellie” Jensen, 83, of Sleepy Eye died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at the Hospice House in Redwood Falls. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012  at Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with Pastor Eric Libby officiating. Burial will be in the Danebod Cemetery in Brookville Township, Redwood County. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday.     Vernelda Evelyn Jensen was born on June 4, 1929 in New Ulm to Alfred and Amanda (Kastens) Stolt. She graduated in 1946 from Sleepy Eye High School. On June 8, 1947 she was united in marriage to Sherman Jensen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. She had worked at Sleepy Eye Hospital, Sleepy Eye Care Center, State Bank of Sleepy Eye, Pinks in New Ulm, Prairie River (HHA), and as a Brown County Home Health Aid. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and attending church services. Vernelda was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, and a member of Women of “Grace”.
     
    Vernelda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Larry Holm of Sleepy Eye; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Joleen  Jensen, Tom and Sue Jensen, Randy and Betsy Jensen all of Sleepy Eye; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. 
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sherman Jensen on January 6, 1978; and a brother in infancy.
