The students pictured are only a few of the over 200 volunteers that gave their time to pack 67,000 meals Sunday (Nov. 11) at the Eagles Orchid Inn.
This is the ninth year the program has packed meals. Students at each of the three schools in Sleepy Eye as well as many church and civic groups came out to donate their time and services for those less fortunate. The organization, Food For Kidz, sends the meals to third world countries and local food shelves where there is a need. Each year the volunteer effort is held usually on the second Sunday of November.
Not only did community members pack 67,000 meals, but collectively raised over $10,000 to support the efforts.
Once the meals are packed they are loaded onto a truck and donated globally. This year five different organizations have taken food with them and will donate to local food shelves in the communities of Comfrey, Morgan, Sleepy Eye, New Ulm, Lamberton and Springfield.
