  • Love and Compassion

  • On occasional late night road trips, the children seem to do all they can, to stay awake; even physically holding their eyelids open, has been tried. When I say, “I love you both”, it’s as if I’ve given them permission; their bodies become so relaxed that they can finally fall asleep. It happens almost immediately~ it’s incredible to witness.

Authentic, unconditional love is so powerful and peaceful. I was emailing recently with a woman I plan to do some work with. She is a person so full of love and compassion, that just through her email and her closing signature of Love, Susie, I felt completely relaxed and full of peace. Love is an unselfish affection, admiration, and concern for the good of another, without limits. To love unconditionally, is to love regardless of behaviors, a particular look, culture, etc. It is to love without holding someone to certain expectations. It is a sincere attitude toward another, just because.
The Dalai Lama says, “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.”

The Bible says, “…The greatest of these is Love,” and “It always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.” It is our most important virtue. So why would we ever forget it or withhold it?

A wise friend offered a tip, “Always present Love.” In any situation, to act out of love, or offer love, is the greatest contribution we can make. Everybody needs it!

Physiologically, did you know that your body can potentially store anger, frustration, aggression, irritation and impatience? Emotional detoxification happens through forgiveness, compassion and kindness (Love) (Healing Therapies UK). We can offer love to ourselves and get rid of the negativity and offer it to others to assist in their health.

Our society encourages us to do more and more. Our patience has become sidelined. We become anxious if our “fast food” isn’t ready in a millisecond, we get upset if our email, facebook, etc doesn’t pop-up immediately. We stop thinking before acting, trying to get more done, in less time. This busy, hectic life style can cause us to forget about love and compassion, because these emotions take time ~ they are thoughtful. Negativity breeds negativity. Slow down, pay attention and be Loving in all your interactions. Always share love and compassion. Even if someone has done you wrong, they need love, so be the person to offer it and realize how it breaks down walls. Notice how a person’s shoulders drop or their smile grows almost immediately.

What peace we could have in our world if we all tried to offer Love and Compassion in all we do!
