Karen (Mrs. Vincent) Branch, 53, of New Ulm, died Thursday, Nov. 15, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Sleepy Eye.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred around 6 a.m. near the Christensen Farms feedmill when a westbound 2001 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Branch crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2001 Ford Econoline van driven by 52-year-old Roddy Verschelde of North Mankato.
Branch was pronounced dead at the scene while Verschelde was transported to North Memorial in Robbinsdale with non-life threatening injuries.
The highway was closed in both directions for several hours following the crash. Assisting at the scene was North Air Care, Sleepy Eye Fire and Rescue, the Sleepy Eye Ambulance and the state patrol. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Branch was employed as a chef manager/food service director by Taher Food Services Inc. in partnership with Sleepy Eye Public Schools.
She is survived by her husband, Vincent, of New Ulm and children, Quintin and Christian Branch, both living at home in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial was in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to either Make A Wish Foundation in her son, Quintin’s name, to the New Ulm United Way or to the donor’s choice.
