  • Since the fall weather has changed and days are shorter, more people are using the school hallways to walk. Hours are usually 3:30-6:30 p.m. Be sure to register with this office and if you have your walking pass from last year, you can use the same one. Walking usually ends in March when the outside conditions are again favorable.

    Two additional opportunities are available for those wanting the first time 55 Alive class or the renewal class during this calendar year. New offerings will be available in the 2013 year. Certificates are good for three years and provide a 10 percent discount on vehicle insurance.
     
    During the month of November this year, veterans, spouses and dependents can take the AARP 55 Alive classes free of charge. There is space in the following classes:
    First time class on Monday, Nov. 12 and Tuesday, Nov. 13, 5:30-9:30 p.m.
    Renewal class on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 5:30-9:30 p.m.
     
    Other class offerings during the month include:
     
    Babies class will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 9:30-10:30 a.m.
     
    An All Day Quilting class will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

    It is time to make your suggestions for events, classes and activities for the winter-spring term with Sleepy Eye Community Education. The advisory board will be meeting on Thursday, Nov. 15, 4 p.m. and determine what to offer January through May in 2013.

    The Sleepy Eye Ambulance Service has a CPR class on Thursday, Nov. 15, 6:30-10:30 p.m. the Lay Rescuer/Non-Healthcare Provider’s CPR will be presented for those needing to update as well as those who have never taken the course. This class will be held at the Ambulance/Police Garage and to register, call Shari Hittesdorf at 507-794-3116.

    The River Valley Dutchmen are offering Snowmobile Safety Training on Dec. 1, 8 a.m. at the River Valley Dutchmen Club House in Essig. Class pre-registration is required on Nov. 20, 6-7:30 p.m., at the club house. A free DC will be given to registrants ages 11-15. The one day classroom reviews the CD and offers a riding performance course. Students do not need to bring a snowmobile, but need to dress for the weather and bring a snowmobile helmet, gloves and boots on Dec. 1. Certificates become valid at age 12. A parent or guardian will need to complete registration forms on the 20th and provide the registration fee. For more information, call the New Ulm DNR at 507-359-6043.
