Harold (Harry) William Turbes died October 28 at Galtier Care Center in St. Paul, after a stay in Minneapolis Veterans Administration Medical Center. After a private burial in St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery, friends are invited to join the family for a reception at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at the Springfield American Legion. Memorial contributions should be directed to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
Harold William Turbes was born April 10, 1930, on the family farm in Burnstown Township to Henry and Margaret Ida (Heller) Turbes. He graduated from Springfield High School. Harold served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and raising dogs. For many years he farmed the land in Burnston Township, two miles south of Springfield, farmed by his father until his death. The land was purchased by his grandfather, Peter Turbes, in 1901. Peter was the last of the Civil War veterans in Springfield.
He is survived by his brother Roman W. (Donna) and nine nieces and nephews: Diane (Gerald Christianson), Rosemary Stage, Gregory Stage, Michael Stage, Daniel Stage, David Stage, Janine Stage, Sandra Turbes (Thomas Powers) and Joel Turbes (Caryn Mohr).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Lucille Stage and Viola.
